  The Initial Consultation
Your first meeting with an attorney in this office (the initial consultation) is an opportunity for you to briefly/generally explain your situation to us. We will discuss the legal process, how the law affects your case, and the cost to bring your situation to resolution.

How Long Will my Divorce Take?

This is the question most frequently asked in an initial office conference with a prospective client. We certainly will attempt to provide you with a reasonable time estimate. However, please bear in mind that it is impossible for an attorney to precisely predict this as the length of time necessary to complete your divorce depends on many issues, which are unknown at the outset, and also on factors that are out of our control. Many of these issues and factors are included in The Discovery Process. To keep our client's informed of the progress of the case, we mail or e-mail to our clients copies of all important documents upon receipt, and copies of important documents upon mailing.

Attorneys Fees

During this meeting, we will discuss legal fees, what the case may potentially cost and what hourly rate will apply to your case. You will be required to pay a retainer, which is a sum of money paid at the beginning of the case against which the hourly charges and expenses will be billed. A fee agreement (a contract) will be forwarded to you once the retainer is paid setting forth, in detail, the specifics of the legal fees, costs and hourly rates. If you have any questions about how you will be billed or regarding your legal fees or costs, even as your case progresses, please speak to us about them.
